| The Bhutanese call their country Druk Yul or “land of the thunder dragon”. The country is one of the most-isolated and traditional in the world. In 2006 Business Week rated Bhutan the happiest country in Asia and the eighth happiest in the world. The landscape ranges from subtropical plains in the south to the Himalayan heights in the north, with some peaks exceeding 23,000 feet. Bhutan’s economy is based on agriculture, forestry, tourism and the sale of hydroelectric power to India. |
