| Burma is often described as a country only 30 minutes from Bangkok yet one that is more than 30 years back in time. Officially the Union of Myanmar, Burma is the largest country by geographical area in mainland Southeast Asia. It is ethnically diverse with at least 108 different linguistic groups consisting mainly of distinct Tibeto-Burman peoples, but with sizable populations of Daic, Hmong-Mien and Austroasiatic (Mon-Khmer) peoples. |
